Many of the positions targeted are in Amazon Web Services, retail, Prime Video, and HR (People Experience & Technology), though the scope could be broader. The layoffs may begin as early as January 27, 2026, according to Reuters.
The company cited AI technology as a factor in prior reductions, calling it "the most transformative technology since the internet," though CEO Andy Jassy emphasised that the decision is not financially or AI-driven but related to corporate culture.
These cuts represent almost 10% of Amazon's corporate workforce, marking the largest layoffs in the company's history.
