From 8 to 13 March 2026, Light + Building in Frankfurt am Main will debut a world premiere: "The Living Light – where Design and Technology Shape the Future", an immersive concept demonstrating the transformative potential of lighting in everyday life. The special installation, located in Hall 3.1, combines design, technology and spatial experience to illustrate how light can influence wellbeing, performance, communication and emotion.

Developed by Lichtvision Design under the curatorial direction of Carla Wilkins, Senior Partner and Global Creative Director, the project presents light as a holistic, living design factor. Wilkins explains: "With 'The Living Light', we want to show that light is far more than illumination. Light is a living design factor that appeals to our emotions, motivates us and connects us with one another. When we use technology in the right way and embed it in a holistic overall concept, light can enhance every moment of our everyday lives."
At the core of the installation is the "Green Spine", a light-staged corridor connecting four themed areas. Inspired by natural growth forms, the route features a moss-covered wall, guiding visitors through varying light moods and intensities that evolve along the experience. This central element symbolises connection and continuity between technology, space, and human interaction.
The four areas of life explored in the installation are:
- Home – Atmosphere, Dynamism and Wellbeing: Light adapts to the times of day and individual moods, offering visitors control via a lighting interface. The space demonstrates how lighting can create security, comfort, and emotional closeness.
- Education – Light as a Driver of Motivation and Health: Four spatial scenarios illustrate how targeted lighting supports learning processes, reduces sensory overload, and caters to diverse needs, from playful and active learning to digital and neurodiverse approaches.
- Work – Performance and Regeneration in Balance: Light narrates the workday, from focused mornings to evening relaxation. A deliberately disordered workspace symbolises the individual within a controlled system, with light visualising emotional states and rhythm.
- Communication – Sensor Technology and Interaction: Light responds dynamically to movement and interaction, highlighting how networked systems can enhance communication and create vibrant, interactive spaces.
"The Living Light" forms part of Light + Building 2026's high-calibre programme, including panel talks, presentations and guided tours, offering professionals from architecture, interior design, and lighting technology a comprehensive exploration of current trends and innovations.
Light + Building 2026 runs from 8–13 March 2026 in Frankfurt am Main.
