A contemporary haven above the sea by Viyar Furniture

'The interior is a carefully calibrated balance of precision and softness'

High above the Black Sea, overlooking the shifting horizon of Batumi, Georgia, this contemporary apartment unfolds as a quiet manifesto of refined minimalism, realised with bespoke solutions by Viyar Furniture. Conceived as a serene retreat, the interior is defined not by overt gestures, but by a carefully calibrated balance of precision and softness. Architecture, light, and materiality come together to create a space that feels sculptural yet deeply liveable, revealing its luxury slowly through texture, proportion, and atmosphere rather than spectacle.

The spatial concept is grounded in continuity and calm. Functional zones flow seamlessly into one another, uninterrupted by sharp visual breaks or unnecessary ornamentation. Clean architectural lines form a disciplined framework, while layered, indirect lighting softens the experience and enhances the sense of repose. A muted palette allows materials to take precedence, emphasising their inherent depth and tactile qualities. The result is an interior that feels cohesive and timeless, resisting trends in favour of enduring clarity.

At the heart of the apartment stands its most commanding gesture: a monumental 4.5-meter kitchen island crafted from premium MDi Inalco. More than a functional surface, the island acts as a sculptural anchor for the entire living space. Its monolithic form is balanced by the quiet elegance of its material presence, cool to the touch, visually pure, and resolutely understated. Here, the kitchen is not concealed or minimised, but elevated to the role of social and visual core, a place for gathering, preparation, and contemplation where utility and art converge.

The bathroom continues this narrative of material purity and restraint. An MDi Inalco sink is conceived as a single, flowing object, seamlessly integrated into its surroundings. Its smooth geometry and refined finish echo the calm language of the apartment, transforming a functional element into a subtle focal point. By eliminating visual noise, the design allows material honesty to take centre stage, reinforcing the project's commitment to clarity and composure.

Storage solutions are approached with equal intention. The custom-designed wardrobe system, made from Egger chipboard, introduces warmth and tactility through soft textures and precise detailing. Integrated, delicate illumination elevates the composition beyond mere practicality, allowing the wardrobe to read as an architectural element rather than an accessory. It contributes quietly but decisively to the overall sense of balance that defines the home.

Even transitional spaces are treated as meaningful moments. The hallway, often reduced to a purely functional passage, becomes an elegant architectural line that gently guides movement through the apartment. Clean geometry and subtle lighting create a sense of anticipation, preparing the occupant for the spaces that unfold beyond and reinforcing the project's holistic approach to design.

Ultimately, this Batumi apartment is a study in thoughtful minimalism. Every element is purposeful, and luxury is expressed through restraint rather than excess. Material honesty, careful proportion, and a pervasive sense of calm define the experience of the space. Suspended above the sea, the home does not seek to impress loudly; instead, it resonates quietly and enduringly, offering a contemporary haven shaped by refinement, clarity, and depth.
