Spanish furniture maker expands global footprint with majority stake in Italian design icon Driade

A Spanish outdoor furniture manufacturer has taken a majority stake in Italian high-end design brand Driade, marking a significant strategic move to broaden its international presence and strengthen its design credentials. Kettal's acquisition sees it assume control of the storied Italian company, while Nemo Group remains a minority shareholder as part of the ongoing ownership structure.

Founded in 1968, Driade has long been recognised in the luxury design sector for its collaborations with influential designers such as Philippe Starck, Ron Arad, Patricia Urquiola and Rodolfo Dordoni, offering a diverse range of furniture and objects that span residential, outdoor, office and public spaces. The brand's heritage in avant-garde design has made it a respected name in international interiors and lifestyle markets.

The deal is part of Kettal's broader ambition to elevate its design portfolio and accelerate growth beyond its core outdoor segment, combining Driade's creative legacy with Kettal's expertise in high-quality, durable furniture. Kettal itself is well established as a premium outdoor furniture designer, known for melding contemporary aesthetics with functional innovation, often working with world-renowned designers and emphasising sustainability in its materials and production.

Industry observers view the acquisition as timely, reflecting continued consolidation in the global furniture and design sector as companies seek scale and differentiated design identities to meet evolving consumer demand. The partnership positions Kettal to leverage Driade's design legacy while expanding its influence across new markets and product categories.
