Homeware sales climb on high street despite challenging footfall

UK homeware sales returned to growth in the week ending 11 January 2026, marking the ninth positive result in the past ten weeks, according to the BDO High Street Sales Tracker. Total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 3.76%, with the homewares category showing a particularly strong performance, up 12.83% from the previous week's base of 6.13%.

Store homeware sales increased by 7.05%, the fourth consecutive positive week, while non-store sales also grew by 2.80% from a base of 16.50%. Overall store LFLs rose 1.90%, recovering from a prior negative base, and total non-store sales climbed 4.83%.

BDO noted that the UK experienced freezing weather, with temperatures dropping to around -10 °C, accompanied by widespread snow and strong winds from Storm Goretti. Despite adverse conditions, fashion and homewares delivered positive results both in-store and online.

However, overall high street footfall fell by 3.7%, with declines of 5.2% on the high street, 2.8% at shopping centres, and 1.6% at retail parks, reflecting the impact of severe winter weather on shopper numbers.
