Berlinale 2026 Red Carpet: glamour meets sustainability by Object Carpet

At this year's 76th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), the iconic red carpet will do more than welcome stars, it will showcase a pioneering approach to sustainable design. Supplied by Object Carpet, the carpet embodies circularity and ecological responsibility without compromising style or performance.

Modern carpets, particularly for high-traffic commercial or event spaces, face a sustainability challenge: conventional carpets often combine 10–20 different materials, making recycling nearly impossible. As a result, many end up incinerated or in landfills, generating CO₂ emissions and waste. Object Carpet is addressing this industry-wide problem with DUO technology, a revolutionary manufacturing process that uses only polyester and polyamide, bonded with a heat-dissolvable adhesive. This design allows full separation and multiple recycling cycles, reducing material usage by up to 40% and eliminating water in the coating process.

Further enhancing sustainability, the Berlinale carpet incorporates Econyl® yarn from recycled fishing nets and industrial waste, while its lightweight construction reduces transport emissions and facilitates installation. The carpet is also robust enough to handle over 100,000 visitors, even under variable weather conditions.

Daniel Butz, CEO of Object Carpet, sees the project as a call to action: "Even carpets used temporarily and intensively can set a benchmark for sustainability when materials are carefully selected and designed for recyclability." Berlinale Director Tricia Tuttle adds: "The red carpet is a symbol of cinematic magic. It is all the more meaningful that it can also inspire sustainable change in the carpet industry."

Object Carpet has a long history of innovation in design and sustainability. Its award-winning DUO technology is part of a broader strategy to convert the company's full range to recyclable, circular products by the end of 2026, building on milestones such as the fully circular NEOO carpet introduced in 2022. With clients including Porsche, Google, and Adidas, Object Carpet continues to combine design excellence with ecological responsibility.
