Unilin Technologies will present Squareclic at Domotex in Hannover and The International Surface Event (TISE) in Las Vegas, introducing a new installation technology designed to enable flawless checkerboard flooring layouts. The solution addresses one of the long-standing challenges in patterned flooring: achieving and maintaining perfect square alignment without complex tools or time-consuming adjustments.

Checkerboard installations are increasingly popular as a bold design statement, yet they leave little margin for error during installation. Squareclic has been developed specifically to overcome this issue by integrating a mechanically fixed alignment insert directly into the flooring panel. This insert locks tiles precisely into position, preventing movement between panels and ensuring a clean, consistent checkerboard pattern throughout the floor.
A technical solution to a design challenge
Traditional checkerboard installations often rely on external alignment tools and installer experience to achieve a precise result. Squareclic eliminates this complexity by embedding the alignment function into the product itself. During installation, the insert automatically connects with the adjacent panel, keeping tiles perfectly square and reducing the risk of shifting over time.
According to Unilin Technologies, this approach significantly improves ease of installation, particularly for DIY applications, while also delivering long-term performance.
"Checkerboard patterns look fantastic, but they leave little margin for error," says Floris Koopmans, Sales & Marketing Director at Unilin Technologies. "Squareclic minimizes the risk of shifting panels while making installation easier than ever. The integrated insert automatically locks into the other panel, creating perfect alignment between tiles and keeping the floor looking exactly as intended, even years after installation."
Designed for manufacturers and sustainability
Squareclic has been developed with manufacturers in mind. The technology is fully compatible with Unilin's existing click systems, including established platforms, allowing integration into current product ranges with minimal adaptation. The alignment insert can be pre-installed during production, enabling faster, more straightforward on-site installation: panels are simply angled in and locked.
In addition, Squareclic is compatible with products with or without an attached underlay, giving producers flexibility in product design, positioning and pricing. From a sustainability perspective, the insert can be easily removed at the end of the product's life cycle, supporting recyclability and responsible material use.

"Squareclic is a great example of how we translate real market needs into practical, robust technologies," Koopmans adds. "It combines design freedom with technical reliability and gives manufacturers full flexibility in how they bring patterned tile products to market."
