Wayfair has co-developed Google's Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard to streamline AI-powered shopping interactions between platforms and retailers. The protocol allows AI agents to guide customers from product discovery to check out while ensuring Wayfair remains the merchant of record, maintaining consistent pricing, fulfilment, and support.

Fiona Tan, Wayfair CTO, highlighted the company's focus on intuitive, personalised discovery through tools like the Muse pilot and the Discover tab in the Wayfair app. UCP will soon enable direct checkout from Google product listings in AI Mode and the Gemini app, letting shoppers complete purchases without leaving Google.
By supporting open standards like UCP, Wayfair aims to connect customers to trusted retailers and reliable shopping experiences, reflecting a broader push to integrate AI seamlessly into high-consideration online furniture purchases.
