According to the regulator's decision, published this week, Poltronesofà presented discounts in a way that gave consumers a false impression of savings, breaching Italian consumer protection rules. The authority found that the retailer's advertising suggested larger or more consistent reductions than were actually available, influencing purchasing decisions.
The fine highlights increased regulatory scrutiny of pricing transparency within the furniture retail sector, particularly around promotional messaging and discount claims. Authorities stressed that advertised price reductions must be clear, accurate and verifiable to ensure consumers are not misled.
The case serves as a warning to furniture retailers operating in Italy that marketing practices will be closely monitored, with penalties imposed where promotions exaggerate value or fail to reflect genuine savings.
