UK saw 287 new furniture companies registered in December

In December 2025, the UK furnishing industry experienced a notable surge in new business activity, with a total of 287 new companies incorporated, according to data from Companies House. The growth spanned across multiple segments of the sector, reflecting a broad confidence in the market. Among these new businesses, 85 were retailers, including 62 furniture and lighting stores and 23 focused on carpets and floor coverings. Manufacturing activity also contributed significantly, with 55 new furniture manufacturers, including seven specialising in mattresses and ten in soft furnishings, as well as one new carpet manufacturer and 45 businesses producing floor and wall coverings.

The wholesale and intermediary segments were equally active, with 27 new companies focusing on the wholesale of furniture, carpets, and lighting, and 52 filings for agents involved in the sale of furniture and household goods. Additionally, five new businesses were established in furniture repair. This diverse growth highlights not only the resilience of the furnishing industry but also its adaptability across retail, manufacturing, and service sectors. Analysts suggest that the increase in new incorporations reflects strong market confidence and anticipates continued consumer demand, particularly as homeware and furnishing markets expand both in traditional outlets and online channels. The full list of company names, incorporation dates, and registration codes is available via a spreadsheet provided by Big Furniture Group.

Overall, December's activity signals a dynamic start to 2026 for the UK furnishing industry, with new entrants positioning themselves to capitalise on growing consumer interest and the evolving retail landscape.
