German furniture chain closes branch amid clearance sale

A German furniture store is set to close its Bad Langensalza store, marking the second recent branch closure for the furniture chain. The store will remain open until 31 January 2026, with a clearance sale currently underway. The company thanked customers for their loyalty and encouraged them to visit nearby locations in Mühlhausen and Eisenach.

Möbelpiraten operates 17 or 18 branches, predominantly in Hesse, where eight stores are located, including in Kassel and Bad Hersfeld, the latter of which was affected by a fire several months ago. Other branches are in Thuringia, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Saxony-Anhalt.

The Facebook announcement featured PR language promising "Guaranteed 70% off every item," though the discount is qualified by 'up to'. Remaining stock may be relocated to other branches. The reasons for the closures have not been publicly disclosed, with conflicting reports suggesting either company strategy or landlord issues.

The Hildburghausen branch was the first to close in late November 2025, signalling a broader contraction for Möbelpiraten, which began in Kassel over 30 years ago.
