Italy's luxury furniture sector is facing challenges as exports to China dropped 9.9% in the first nine months of 2025, totalling €320 million, according to FederlegnoArredo, the country's wood supply chain consortium. The decline reflects both waning Chinese demand for foreign luxury goods and tariff pressures.

Overall, Italy's furniture exports remained largely stable at €14.2 billion, with minor declines in key markets including the U.S. (-1.6%) and France (-1.7%), while Germany saw a slight increase (+0.8%). The slowdown in China coincides with broader economic and real estate issues, which, combined with trade policy challenges, have impacted luxury spending.
FederlegnoArredo is urging the EU to expedite a trade deal with Mercosur, which could open access to Brazil and other South American markets, potentially offsetting some losses in China. President Ursula von der Leyen is scheduled to sign the agreement in Brazil, aiming to create one of the world's largest free-trade areas.
Claudio Feltrin, president of FederlegnoArredo, emphasised that the sector is closely monitoring global trade developments while adapting to evolving consumer demand.
