Rustic Art's story is one of heart, hope, and hard work. A story that stretches back over 10 years, rooted in a deep desire to make a real difference. What began as a humble social initiative aimed at improving work and living conditions in Romania has blossomed into a growing furniture brand that is carving out its place in the European interiors market. But even as Rustic Art embraces new commercial ambitions, its soul remains firmly grounded in the values of craftsmanship, sustainability, and social impact.
Co-founder Daan de Groot reflects on this long journey with pride. 'We started with a simple idea: create sustainable jobs and improve lives through meaningful work. That vision never changed. But over time, we learned that to keep making an impact, we had to think bigger about how to bring our products to more people and grow in a way that's both authentic and commercially viable.'

Highlights of 2025
One of the most touching moments from 2025 was the dismantling of a 100-year-old barn in Romania. This wasn't just about salvaging wood, it was about reclaiming history, memories, and stories embedded in every beam. 'We worked as a team, carefully choosing which pieces to take, knowing each one carried a piece of heritage,' Daan recalls. Materials from the original barn have been repurposed into the products shown in the photographs. Today, that reclaimed timber forms bespoke furniture pieces that tell a story of resilience and renewal; an authentic connection that resonates deeply with customers seeking more than just a product.
The launch of the flintstone bed, a unique design combining rugged stone legs with rustic wooden frames, symbolizes Rustic Art's creative evolution. 'It's a piece that surprises people. It's raw, it's honest, and it's beautiful,' says Daan. Innovations like this strike a balance between art and market appeal, showcasing how Rustic Art is building a brand that's both meaningful and commercially exciting.

The company also participated in a furniture fair in Bucharest, primarily showcasing to domestic buyers but gaining valuable industry insights. Additionally, in January, Rustic Art took part in Maison & Objet 2025, one of Europe's leading design fairs, marking an important step in expanding its international presence. 'Fairs help us position ourselves within the market and understand customer expectations,' Daan explains. 'These events are important stepping stones toward more ambitious international engagement.'

Looking towards 2026
2026 is a year of opportunity and intentional growth. Rustic Art plans to focus on smaller, exclusive collaborations with designers across Europe, crafting limited-edition collections that celebrate authenticity and artistry. 'We want to build partnerships that help tell our story and bring our work to the right people,' Daan explains. These connections will be the foundation for Rustic Art's next chapter, where social mission and commercial success walk hand in hand.
For those who value purpose as much as design, Rustic Art offers more than furniture, it offers a vision of how business can be a force for good, even in a competitive market. Their journey is a reminder that with patience, passion, and a commitment to values, it's possible to create lasting impact and beautiful things.
