David LHOMME reflects on 2025 and the future of Poldem Groupe

'After completely overhauling our product range, agility is now our strongest asset in a demanding industry'

The European interior and furniture sector is entering a phase where resilience, adaptability and purpose-led design are no longer optional, they are fundamental. Brands that thrive are those willing to rethink their foundations while staying close to changing consumer expectations. Poldem Group is one such company, navigating a demanding market with renewed clarity and ambition.

A year of reset and renewal
Looking back on 2025, David describes it as a moment of honest reassessment. 'It was a year of reflection and renewal,' he says. 'We faced a decline in business volume, which forced us to rethink our strategies at every level and turn challenges into opportunities.'

Rather than retreating, Poldem chose to act decisively. 'We knew standing still was not an option,' David notes. 'The market is demanding, but it is also full of possibilities if you are prepared to adapt.'

This mindset set the tone for the year, encouraging the company to question established processes and sharpen its value proposition.

Redefining the product offer
One of the most visible outcomes of this renewed focus was a complete overhaul of the product range. 'At the Brussels Furniture Fair, we introduced 15 new programmes,' David explains. 'It was a strong statement of our commitment to design, relevance and innovation.'

Beyond aesthetics, the collections were designed to respond to real-life needs. 'Consumers are increasingly looking for mobile and adaptable products,' he adds. 'Furniture has to fit easily into different environments and lifestyles.'

Internally, this shift required collective energy. 'We made a big effort to motivate our teams and rally them around these new projects,' David says. 'That shared momentum was essential to moving forward.'

Agility in a changing market
Alongside product renewal, Poldem invested in people. 'We expanded our team and recruited new talents from diverse backgrounds,' David shares. 'Fresh perspectives bring new strategic vision, and that has increased our flexibility and competitiveness.'

He also highlights a clear change in purchasing behaviour. 'Buying periods are more targeted but more intense,' he says. 'This means we must be extremely responsive and constantly attentive to customer needs.'

Despite market pressure, these adjustments allowed Poldem to maintain its market share. 'Agility has become one of our strongest assets,' David notes.

Sustainability as a design driver
Sustainability is no longer treated as a separate pillar but as a core design principle. 'We carefully select the best materials, whether for upholstery or foam, to maximise product longevity,' David explains. 'Environmental impact and durability go hand in hand.'

Design trends and sustainability considerations now guide every stage of development. 'It influences everything we do,' he says. 'From concept to collection, it is embedded in our decisions.'

Priorities and pressures for 2026
Looking ahead, David is clear about the road ahead. 'Our priorities for 2026 are to consolidate our position in existing markets, identify new promising segments and continue innovating,' he says. Modular and sustainable solutions will remain central, particularly in markets where demand is strongest.

However, the outlook is not without concern. 'The growing competition from China is a major issue,' David warns. 'We are facing what we consider unfair competition, which threatens European industries and jobs.'

Despite this, optimism remains. '2025 was demanding but formative,' David concludes. '2026 will be full of ambition and projects, and with vigilance and adaptability, we believe European companies like Poldem can continue to shape a meaningful future for interiors.'
