Swedish designer Matilda Hunyadi unveils Sirenarium, a captivating new glass collection for her independent brand, Sloydlab, set to launch in 2026. The collection explores glass as a medium of movement, ornament, and narrative, bridging the line between functional object and fantastical sculpture. Drawing inspiration from historical vessels, marine life, and the language of couture, Sirenarium presents forms that appear suspended in motion: swirling tentacles, sweeping fins, and ruffled silhouettes evoke an imagined underwater world caught in time.

Known for her talent in reinterpreting traditional design through a contemporary lens, Hunyadi treats glass not only as a material but also as a vessel for storytelling. "Glass becomes capable of holding movement, memory, and narrative within its translucent body," she explains. The collection expands Sloydlab's universe, where craft heritage meets expressive form and playful eccentricity.
Sirenarium comprises vases, footed bowls, and wine coolers, each conceived as a character within this aquatic world. Footed bowls reference antique pedestal vessels, yet their bases dissolve into tentacle-like forms, lifting them from the surface and imbuing each piece with a sense of life suspended between stillness and motion. Throughout the collection, seaweed-like motifs and fin-inspired shapes merge with couture aesthetics, translating oversized ruffles and flowing silhouettes into glass.

Hunyadi reflects on the collection's personal inspiration: "As a child growing up on the west coast of Sweden, I was mesmerised by the underwater world. I remember snorkelling through seaweed forests, watching their gentle movements. With Sirenarium, I am creating a home for my aquatic glass, presenting its first inhabitants as the beginning of a lore to be continued."
Each piece is hand-blown by New Zealand glassblower Bevan Taka in Limmared, Sweden, embracing the fluidity and unpredictability of molten glass to ensure every object is unique. The collection has been photographed in the distinctive Orangerie at Gunnebo Slott by Jonathan Hökklo, whose work has appeared in Vogue, AD, and Residence.
Sirenarium invites viewers into an enchanting, otherworldly realm—an intimate exploration of color, form, and narrative where functional glass becomes living sculpture.
