Italian furniture exports hold firm amid global market pressures

Italy's timber and furniture sector showed resilience in 2025 despite ongoing global uncertainty, according to data from FederlegnoArredo based on Istat figures. Exports totalled €12.7bn in the first eight months of the year, a marginal decline of 0.2%, following a sharper 4.7% fall recorded in August alone.

Furniture production returned to growth, rising 4.3% in October and confirming a positive trend seen earlier in the year. This marks a recovery after two difficult years and reflects stabilisation in the domestic market, supported by continued construction incentives. By contrast, timber production remained broadly flat, with a cumulative decline of 0.3%.

Export performance varied by market. France, Germany and Switzerland recorded declines, while China fell sharply due to property sector weakness. Growth was seen in the UK, Spain, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates, while Morocco emerged as one of the fastest-growing markets, driven by construction and hospitality investment.

FederlegnoArredo president Claudio Feltrin said the aim is to close 2025 with a limited deficit, noting that quality, innovation and new market development will be critical to sustaining competitiveness in an uncertain environment.
