His vision of cultural heritage and innovation has left a lasting impact on Royal Delft, the Royal Porceleyne Fles. By investing in the company, he helped preserve the craft of Delftware and gave this iconic Dutch tradition a place in modern times. The company expresses its gratitude for his trust, commitment, and dedication. Royal Delft extends its thoughts to his wife, family, and all who witnessed his leadership and generosity.
Fentener van Vlissingen was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2018. In a 2024 interview with Quote, he said the diagnosis confronted him with his own mortality. Three months ago, he withdrew from his companies. "The companies were transferred economically, but at the time the control was entirely mine," he said.
In addition to his involvement with Royal Delft, Fentener van Vlissingen invested in real estate, e-commerce, and publicly listed companies, including Sligro. According to the most recent Quote 500, his assets were estimated at €2.9 billion.
A remarkable detail from his past: he once had the opportunity to buy the music rights to The Beatles but failed to raise the necessary millions. The eventual buyer later sold the rights at a significant profit.
