Major fire destroys German furniture warehouse

A major fire broke out early Sunday morning at a furniture production hall in the Steenfelde district of Westoverledingen (Germany), near Federal Highway B70. The first fire departments were alerted at 4:38 a.m., and as the fire escalated, additional units from Westoverledingen, Rhauderfehn and surrounding towns were called in, including teams with turntable ladders.

The Dahlhaus warehouse and its contents were completely destroyed, with the roof collapsing. The fire also damaged an adjacent company building. Residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed while emergency services were on site.

Firefighting efforts involved 26 emergency vehicles and 150 personnel from multiple municipalities, supported by the THW, the local energy supplier, and the Lower Water Authority of the Leer district. The operation lasted several hours.

No official information is yet available regarding the cause of the fire or the total extent of the damage. Roads adjacent to the site, including the B70, were partially closed during the incident.

The fire underscores the challenges faced by local emergency services in tackling large-scale industrial fires, with coordination across multiple towns and agencies proving critical to managing the situation.
