Sleep-focused trends dominated, with sales of Super King beds up 39% and king beds rising 23%, while double mattresses fell 5%. Jason Wilary-Attew, director of home at John Lewis, said 'people want better sleep' and are willing to invest in larger beds and mattresses.
Home furnishings saw a move from muted mattes to reflective chrome, particularly in lighting, coffee tables and armchairs. Cocoa emerged as a leading neutral, used in chenille upholstery and popular 1970s-inspired curve chairs. The Marcy armchair sold out five times, while standalone bookcases, embroidered cushions and garden furniture also grew in popularity.
John Lewis reported an extra 100,000 weekly website visits, yet in-store discovery remains critical, with 48% of customers citing 'wandering around' as their main attraction. Looking ahead, indigo is set to appear in home furnishings in 2026, offering a timeless, versatile shade that complements earthy browns and bridges modern and classic styles.
