Thirteen charged in multi-state $2 million Home Depot theft ring

Thirteen suspects have been charged in connection with a multi-state retail theft ring accused of stealing over $2 million in merchandise from Home Depot stores across New York and eight other states, officials announced. If convicted, the defendants could face up to 15 years in prison.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz described the operation as highly organised, with suspects scouting products and store locations the night before each theft. On the following day, the group would drive to selected stores, steal merchandise, and then resell it through storefronts and online platforms in New York City. Katz noted some stores were targeted multiple times in a single day.

Governor Kathy Hochul emphasised that enhanced support for district attorneys, local police departments and the State Police is helping to disrupt organised retail theft and protect business owners, staff, and shoppers.

The investigation highlights a growing trend of sophisticated, coordinated theft operations spanning multiple states, with stolen goods entering resale channels quickly and systematically.

This case is part of ongoing efforts by state authorities to combat organised retail crime and ensure accountability for large-scale theft operations.
