Cure Nailhouse brings art and community to Detroit

Cure Nailhouse, a new nail salon in Detroit's historic Sugar Hill Arts District, merges beauty services with art, education, and community engagement. Founded by nail artist and creative director Cyndia Robinson, the space is designed to support Black women and femmes in the beauty industry, providing both professional opportunities and a platform to showcase creative talent.

Designed in collaboration with Tiffany Thompson of Duett Interiors, Cure Nailhouse blends functionality and artistry across its treatment areas and communal spaces. The interior features deep merlot and Cabernet tones, gender-neutral furnishings, and reflective metallic accents. A bar area with cube-shaped cubbyholes stores glassware and ceramic vessels, while an arched niche houses hand-washing basins lit by a sculptural pendant from Ladies & Gentlemen Studio. The powder room continues the minimalist aesthetic with charcoal-grey walls, a concrete basin, ceiling-mounted faucet, and black-and-white photography.

Beyond beauty services, Cure Nailhouse serves as an educational and cultural hub, hosting quarterly artist salons, workshops, exhibitions, and collaborative events that intersect Detroit's beauty, fashion, and art communities. These programs focus on cultural preservation, radical self-expression, and creative experimentation, fostering both learning and networking.

Located near major cultural institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit and the Detroit Institute of Arts, Cure Nailhouse reflects the neighbourhood's growing creative ecosystem. The space's thoughtful design and community-oriented programming aim to redefine what a salon can be, emphasising artistry, inclusivity, and empowerment alongside traditional beauty services.

Cure Nailhouse exemplifies a new approach to commercial spaces, where design, education, and community coexist in a visually striking and socially meaningful environment.
