New leadership appointed to BFA’s HR Forum

The British Furniture Association (BFA) has announced new leadership for its HR Forum following a successful first year of operation. The Forum, created to connect HR professionals across the furniture retail, manufacturing and supply sectors, has appointed Laura Buckley, Senior People Business Partner at DFS, as its new Chair. Kat Crowshaw, Human Resources Manager at Peak Converters, has been named Vice-Chair.

Buckley succeeds outgoing Chair Sarah Jane Hutchinson, Head of Group HR at Whitemeadow Upholstery, who co-launched the Forum in 2024 and has overseen its rapid development into a key networking and knowledge-sharing platform.

"I was delighted to take on this role," Buckley said. "Our industry faces very specific HR challenges, especially in manufacturing. Bringing professionals together to share expertise was overdue, and we're already seeing strong engagement."

Crowshaw, who brings experience from Eurocell PLC and Toyota Manufacturing UK, added: "I'm passionate about collaboration and best practice. This Forum is an opportunity to build a supportive HR network that strengthens the future of the furniture sector."

The most recent meeting took place at Lebus Upholstery and featured:
• A factory tour led by Lisa Burrows
• An overview of FIESTA's skills-development resources from Hannah Hockley
• A presentation on apprenticeships and training programmes by Sarah Dawson of WEBS
• A moderated discussion on skills and training chaired by Hutchinson

BFA Managing Director Phil Spademan praised the Forum's momentum, noting that HR leaders are navigating significant shifts, from regulatory changes to evolving workforce needs. "Under Sarah Jane's leadership, the Forum has become an important hub for best practice. I look forward to seeing the progress Laura and Kat will drive."
