Winfried Nilling on the past and the future of Möller Design

'The furniture market in Germany is currently in a challenging phase'

2025 was a year of contrasts for Möller Design. While the German furniture market grappled with uncertainty and declining sales, the company hit significant milestones that reinforced its standing in the premium sleep segment. Amid shifting consumer behaviours and economic pressures, Möller Design doubled down on craftsmanship, personalisation, and innovation. CEO Winfried Nilling reflects on a demanding year that tested resilience and rewarded forward thinking.

Innovation shaping 2025
Among the most notable highlights of the past year was the launch of the FLAP bed, designed by Peter Vosding. The design marks a defining step in Möller Design's collection, introducing modern aesthetics and thoughtful functionality that respond to contemporary interiors and comfort needs. 'The launch of our new FLAP bed was a true highlight for us, bringing fresh energy and a clear design impulse into our collection,' Winfried shares.

Another achievement he emphasises is the company's solid commercial performance in a difficult climate. 'Thanks to good collaboration with our customers, we were able to reach our planned sales target," he states. Strong partnerships and product reliability helped Möller Design maintain stability when many companies faced contraction.

Overcoming market challenges
The past year presented considerable external challenges that shaped the entire industry.
'The furniture market in Germany is currently in a challenging phase with declining sales,' Winfried explains. He points especially to a reduced willingness to spend and the crisis in the construction sector, which slowed new housing and renovation activity, key drivers of furniture demand.

Despite these pressures, Möller Design remains vigilant yet hopeful. 'The market will continue to be difficult, and the sentiment remains tense,' he notes. Still, the company sees room for cautious optimism: 'We hope for a slight recovery in the second half of the year.'
This outlook helps shape the company's strategy as it prepares for another transitional market phase.

Consumer trends
As the company looks to 2026, consumer behaviour plays an increasingly important role in shaping product direction and brand strategy. 'The desire for custom-made furniture, a bed that is exactly tailored to the customer's wishes and needs, is growing,' he observes.

This shift aligns strongly with Möller Design's long-standing expertise. 'We specialise in the topic of sleeping. Our beds and sleep systems are in line with the spirit of the times, and the design is trendsetting,' he says.

Sustainability is equally integral to the brand's identity. 'Sustainability is always important to us. We manufacture our products regionally in the highest quality,' he emphasises. Responsible production, premium materials, and regional manufacturing continue to guide decision-making.

Market focus 2026
With digital touchpoints becoming increasingly important in the customer journey, Möller Design is enhancing its communication and visibility. 'A new website is planned, along with increased activities in social media,' Winfried reveals. These initiatives aim to strengthen brand storytelling and offer customers clearer access to information and inspiration.

On the market side, the company remains committed to its established core regions. 'The focus remains on the German-speaking market D-A-CH, but we also want to expand our activities to other markets,' he says, signalling measured growth and broader ambition.
With no additional messages to add, Winfired's reflections paint a picture of a brand that remains resilient, focused, and ready for the next chapter.
