Belgian investor rescues Swissflex and Superba: relaunch after bankruptcy

After months of uncertainty, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel for Swiss bedding group Aquinos Bedding Switzerland AG: the Swissflex and Superba brands are being taken over by the Belgian company Matrafoam Group. This effectively averts Aquinos' bankruptcy until 31 October 2025.

The takeover was officially announced on 28 November 2025, under the new entity Lunora AG, headquartered at the former Aquinos address in Büron (Canton of Lucerne).
The current company management remains largely unchanged: Lunora will be led by former Aquinos managing director Markus Zoller.

Around 40 production jobs in Flüh (Canton of Solothurn) have been preserved, finally providing perspective to employees who had been without pay for months since June 2025.

According to the bankruptcy office and Matrafoam, production could resume shortly after 1 December 2025. Suppliers are being contacted promptly to restore production, supply chains, and operating conditions.

Why the relaunch came about

The problems lay with the takeover of Aquinos in 2022 by Portuguese parent company Aquinos Group, which insiders said was spread too far, leading to financial pressures and eventually stopping payments to staff.
Matrafoam, despite the crisis, saw value in the Swissflex and Superba brands - brands with 'cult status' and loyal customer base - and seized the opportunity to take over premium ranges while retaining know-how and production resources.

What this means for the market and customers
For employees, the relaunch is a huge relief: after months without pay, the prospect of work and pay is restored. For many, their income has been uncertain for a long time.
For trading partners, dealers and suppliers, the restart offers security: the Swissflex and Superba brands will continue to exist, and production and supply chains may be able to resume quickly.

What is the situation at the headquarters in Büron? Will jobs be retained there too?
According to the news, negotiations are ongoing.

Will the quality, production location or composition of mattresses change under the Lunora/Matrafoam banner?
For now, production in Flüh will take place with the original means of production, but reforms may be on the horizon.

How soon will products be available again for the market in the Netherlands, Belgium and beyond?

Dealers and trading partners will be approached "in the coming days", according to the takeover notice.
