Major retailers pull unsafe furniture in wave of fire-risk recalls

Several major retailers have issued product recalls following safety alerts from the Office for Product Safety and Standards. John Lewis has withdrawn its 2-seater and 3-seater chenille slider sofas after identifying a faulty button on the recliner mechanism that could cause the circuit board to overheat and stop working. Although no complaints or incidents have been reported, the retailer acted as a precaution and has contacted all affected customers. John Lewis advised owners to unplug the sofas and avoid using the recline or charging functions until repairs are completed. The company has since replaced the buttons on all known affected units and confirmed that the issue is fully resolved for products currently on sale.

Furniture wholesaler Monumart Ltd has also issued a recall for its Yaheetech Recliner Armchair, which was found not to meet fire safety standards. The fabric recliner poses a potential fire risk if exposed to an ignition source. Owners are being asked to return the product for disposal in exchange for a full refund.

In a separate notice, Amazon removed and destroyed stock of a floor lamp model, LDDUK-WRD-BK, after the product failed to meet electrical safety requirements. The plug was found to be incorrectly sized and fitted with the wrong fuse, creating a risk of overheating or explosion. Additional issues were identified with product labelling and markings. The import was rejected at the border and the listing has since been taken down.

These recalls highlight the ongoing scrutiny placed on imported home products and the need for strict compliance with UK fire and electrical safety regulations.
