French furniture market grows 1% in October

The French furniture market posted 1% growth in October, marking the fourth consecutive month of positive results, according to the latest IPEA Economic Indicator. Despite this rebound, the sector remains below last year's levels, with year-to-date performance at –1.8%.

Growth continues to be driven primarily by kitchen furniture, which remains the most dynamic segment. Kitchen specialists and major retailers have made this category a strategic priority, reinforcing its upward trend. In contrast, traditional furniture categories remain sluggish and continue to trail the market.

IPEA notes that while October's improvement is encouraging, it "remains far from offsetting the nearly 10% losses recorded over the past two years" during the same period.

Will November maintain the trend?
Retailers launched aggressive Black Friday promotions throughout November. IPEA questions whether these offers can sustain the sector's momentum or if consumers will redirect spending to other categories.

Outlook for year-end
With cumulative performance improving over the past four months to +1.3%, IPEA estimates that if the pace holds, 2025 could close with a limited decline of –1.3%—a much smaller contraction than mid-year forecasts, which projected a drop nearing 4%.

IPEA will present its first full-year assessment and early 2026 outlook on December 10 at its annual conference in Paris.
