LG appoints new CEO and launches major corporate restructuring

LG Electronics has named Lyu Jae-cheol as its new CEO, effective December 1, 2025. Lyu, who currently heads the Home Appliance Solution (HS) Company, succeeds William Cho. A long-time figure within the group, Lyu has helped drive LG's global expansion in home appliances, with a career spanning back to 1989 when he joined Goldstar, the company's predecessor. Since taking charge of the HS division in 2021, he has strengthened B2B activities and expanded direct sales models.

Outgoing CEO William Cho is credited with repositioning LG as a "Smart Life Solution Company," focusing on connected and intelligent technologies.

Alongside the leadership change, LG is introducing a broad organisational overhaul aimed at faster decision-making and clearer strategic alignment. While the company's four core business units (HS, Media Entertainment Solution, Vehicle Solution and Eco Solution) remain intact, several key initiatives will reshape internal operations:

  • Home Appliance Solution: International B2B expansion for built-in and commercial appliances, plus a new HS Robotics Lab.
  • Media Entertainment Solution: TV and IT divisions will merge into a unified Display Unit; webOS advertising activities will grow.
  • Eco Solution: A new division for data-center cooling, ventilation and energy, supported by newly created M&A and Overseas Sales units.
  • Chief Technology Office: Creation of advanced research hubs in robotics, quantum and distributed computing, and next-generation security.
  • Company-wide AI program: A new AX Center will accelerate AI adoption, enhance R&D and improve operational efficiency.

The restructuring begins December 1, 2025, with promotions taking effect on January 1, 2026.
