The court yesterday, Wednesday, November 26, approved the request for the takeover of 15 Belgian Leen Bakker store locations by various retail parties. As a result, some of the locations and their employees will have a new perspective, while the Leen Bakker formula in Belgium will be terminated in the short term.
The takeovers are divided as follows:
- JYSK takes over seven locations: Brugge Veemarkt, Dendermonde, Kuurne, Zottegem, Grivignée, Huy, and Marche-en-Famenne.
- Dreamland takes over the store in Olen.
- Dreambaby takes over the location in Genk.
- Swiss Sense takes over two locations: Tielt-Winge and Mechelen.
- Chaussea takes over the store in La Louvière.
- Zoli99 is expected to take over the stores in Arlon, Champion, and Zaventem.
Thierry Leys, Managing Director of Leen Bakker Belgium, states he is pleased that a solution has been found for these stores and an important part of the staff. "This provides clarity for both our staff and the local communities."
For many employees, the takeover means they may be able to join the new parties. For other locations where no buyer has been found, closure and the associated dismissal procedures remain in effect.
Leen Bakker emphasizes that these developments are entirely separate from activities in the Netherlands. The Dutch stores and the Belgian entity operate independently within Homefashion Group.
