Jali Amara: Northwest 35’s latest addition to the glorious gardens collection

London based rug design studio Northwest 35, has introduced Jali Amara, the latest addition to its Glorious Gardens collection. A celebration of the garden in its various forms, the series brings a sense of natural harmony into interior spaces.

Jali Amara was presented at Decorex 2025, where it attracted strong interest for its pattern, quality and versatility across a wide range of interiors. The design draws on the experience of wandering through the garden of a Mughal palace, acknowledging both a glorious past and an enduring beauty.

In keeping with the wider collection, Jali Amara is rooted in the architectural and botanical motifs that define Mughal garden design. Its geometric language references the carved stone lattice screens—jali—that have been used since the fourteenth century for shade, privacy and natural ventilation. In the rug, the lattice brings a sense of structure, while the surrounding vegetation is depicted as flourishing and full of life. Together, the elements create a thoughtfully curated composition that can serve as either a focal feature or a supporting layer within a scheme.

To suit varied project needs, the design is offered in both multicolour compositions and soft, tonal palettes. The multicolour options introduce depth and intricacy, while the tonal versions provide a more understated interpretation for schemes that require visual calm.

A coordinating runner extends the same geometry in an elongated format—an option well suited to hallways, stairways and entrance spaces, offering continuity across circulation areas.

All rugs in the collection, including Jali Amara, are hand-knotted in Nepal by skilled artisans using techniques refined over generations. Materials range from New Zealand wool to Chinese silk, with other alternative fibres selected according to project requirements. Each rug and runner is made to order, allowing the design to be adapted in colour, shape and size to suit anything from a hallway to a larger interior setting.

"Our approach is to produce only what is needed, using responsible materials and supporting the artisans who bring each piece to life. Craft and ethics sit at the centre of everything we do," says Richa Walia, Founder, Northwest 35.

Northwest 35 works in partnership with Label STEP to ensure fair production standards and meaningful support for weaving communities. The studio prioritises responsibly sourced materials and low-impact methods, with natural fibres such as wool and silk chosen for their longevity and refined aesthetic. Richa adds: "Our rugs embody ethical luxury, offering robust style that works equally well in commercial or residential interiors to add character and interest to a space."
