Swedish design studio Layered has launched a new collaboration with artist Evelina Kroon, presenting a collection of hand-woven rya rugs in 100% New Zealand wool. The collection reinterprets Evelina's distinctive visual language in textile form, merging tactility, volume, and rhythm with her signature graphic expression.

Inspired by the traditional Scandinavian long-pile rya rug, which dates back to 15th-century Norway, the collection balances heritage, artistry, and modern interior sensibilities. "I, for one, am longing for a worthy return of the iconic dust collector," Evelina Kroon remarks, celebrating the revival of this classic format.
The design process was a collaborative effort between Evelina and LAYERED's design team. Analogue sketches were translated digitally, colour palettes refined, and ideas carefully balanced to create a dynamic, harmonious collection. "I like working in parallel - it gives the whole collection life. The patterns get to play with each other, contradict and complement. That's how a collection is built, not as a series of solos but as a choir," Evelina explains.

The collection softens the previously rigid grid of Evelina's work, with the long shaggy pile introducing a more organic, playful feel. "There's a sense of play here - just like in the first collection I created for Layered, I imagine jumping over obstacles in socks. But this time, it takes on a new energy. The grid or check pattern is looser than ever - an important step forward for me," she adds.
Available in multiple sizes, from 180×270 cm to 300×400 cm, and priced from €1,395, the rugs are offered in a range of expressive designs including Arable Land, Arbor, Chestnut, Currant Bush, and Pergola.
