Sustainable design drives growth in Europe’s outdoor furniture market

Europe's outdoor furniture market is set for significant expansion, rising from USD 4.88 billion in 2024 to USD 8.69 billion by 2035. The projected annual growth rate of 5.4% is attributed to increasing consumer preference for sustainable materials, durability, and designs that elevate modern outdoor living.

Growth is being propelled by urbanisation, higher disposable incomes, and a stronger focus on home aesthetics across leading markets such as Germany, the UK, France, Italy, and Spain. Demand for multifunctional, weather-resistant products is also increasing as consumers seek to combine indoor comfort with outdoor style.

Sustainability remains the market's most influential driver. Manufacturers are adopting recycled plastics, responsibly sourced wood, bamboo, and other eco-friendly materials, aligning with Europe's broader environmental objectives. Commercial sectors—including hospitality, outdoor dining, and public recreation—are contributing to steady product turnover and new opportunities for suppliers.

Market segmentation shows strong performance in wooden and recycled plastic materials, as well as in chairs, tables, loungers, and modular seating. Both residential and commercial applications continue to expand, supported by offline retail and a fast-growing online distribution landscape.

Germany and the UK currently lead in market share, while Southern Europe benefits from climate advantages and hospitality growth. Major competitors include IKEA, Herman Miller, Keter, Trex Company, Polywood, and Brown Jordan, each focusing on diversification, sustainable sourcing, and digital engagement.
