Dunelm's Northampton store, destroyed by fire in May, could be rebuilt following a planning application submitted to West Northamptonshire Council. The fire, believed to be deliberately started, also caused severe damage to neighbouring units, including B&M, Tapi Carpets, and Dream.

The application, submitted by RI BQ Stockport Limited, proposes demolition and reconstruction of the affected units to restore 102,547 sq ft of floor space "on a like for like" basis. External façades will be fully refurbished to enhance the building's appearance and complement the surrounding area. The council is expected to make a decision by the end of January 2026.
Northamptonshire Police have arrested several suspects over the fire. A 15-year-old boy, previously pleading not guilty to arson with recklessness, is scheduled to face trial at Wellingborough Magistrates' Court in February 2026.
The rebuild aims to allow tenants to resume trading while ensuring safety and structural integrity. The restoration reflects broader efforts to recover retail infrastructure following unexpected disasters, emphasising both functionality and aesthetic improvement.
