The board of Stichting Matras Recycling Nederland (MRN), which includes representatives from companies such as Ikea, Koninklijke Auping, Beter Bed, Swiss Sense, HML Bedding, and Hilding Anders, has set the disposal fee for 2026.

As of January 1, 2026, the fee is:
- € 7.50 for a single mattress or topper
- € 9.00 for a double mattress or topper
The disposal fee is part of the Extended Producer Responsibility (UPV), which has been in effect since January 1, 2022. This makes manufacturers and importers responsible for the entire lifecycle of mattresses, from production to recycling.
The fee is intended to cover the collection, processing, and recycling of discarded mattresses. Every year, more than one and a half million mattresses end up in waste in the Netherlands, although they can largely be recycled.
Focus on recycling remains important
During the Day of the Dry Mattress on October 15, various dealers already highlighted the importance of recycling. However, according to MRN, it remains essential to keep this topic in the spotlight throughout the year so that more mattresses can have a second life.
