Director of Sales Mark Smith on Elstead’s promise of quality across every collection

‘Good, better or best, whichever range you choose, you’re still buying a Mercedes’

When Elstead Lighting arrives at LiGHT 25 this November, it won't be shouting for attention. Instead, it will let its products speak. 'If the product and the message is good, why run it down someone's throat?' says Mark Smith, Director of Sales at Elstead. 'You don't see many Lamborghini adverts on TV, do you? People aspire to have them anyway. We show our products as well as we possibly can, in a nice, quiet manner, and people understand the quality.'

Showing the strength of the Elstead family
For Mark, the company's appearance at LiGHT 25 isn't about hitting targets or collecting contacts. 'Our goal is simply to give customers the fullest understanding of our brands; what our delivery schedules are, where we source our products, and how we can help their business. Once they see that, they can make their choice.'

It's a refreshing approach in a trade fair world often defined by hard selling. As Mark puts it, 'We just want to deliver the message of the Elstead family, the Ulster Elstead brands, and give people a true sense of who we are.'

Global reach, local integrity
Elstead's quiet confidence is built on years of steady growth. The company now has a strong base in the UK and Ireland, with expanding operations in Central Europe and the Middle East. 'We've got a hub in Poland, great coverage across Europe, and a strong presence in the Middle East,' says Mark. 'Wherever our customers come from, they'll find the same consistency and commitment to quality.'

That commitment runs through Elstead's entire philosophy. 'We like to think of ourselves as the Mercedes of the lighting world,' Mark says with a smile. 'Built to perform beautifully, year after year, with care and precision behind every detail. Nothing we create is by chance, there's always purpose and craftsmanship in the process.'

New brands and unique stories
At LiGHT 25, Elstead will unveil new ranges that continue to push design boundaries. 'We've got exciting new brands like Corries, which we launched in Milan earlier this year, and Arteriors, a high-end American brand,' Mark shares. 'These are real showstoppers; unique, beautifully made, and each one with a reason for coming to market. If there was already something like them out there, people would be buying it already.'

He's particularly proud of the materials and craftsmanship behind them. 'We're showing recycled glass from Vietnam, fittings hand-painted in New Zealand. It's a global collaboration of cultures and skills. The result has a real "wow" factor.'

Designing responsibly
Elstead's attention to quality extends naturally to sustainability. 'We're using recyclable glass from the Philippines and teak from Brazil, all from regenerative sources,' says Mark. 'Nothing is taken from a location that's hazardous to people or wildlife. We also work with villages in the Far East. Our partnerships support entire communities.' Even Elstead's packaging has been redesigned to reduce carbon output while maintaining protection and presentation standards.

Lighting built to last
At its core, Elstead remains focused on trust, safety, and longevity. 'When someone invests their energy and time in choosing lighting, they need to know it's the absolute best product for them,' says Mark. 'Lighting isn't something to take chances with, you can't afford to get it wrong.'

That's why Elstead's products are made to endure. 'People come to us years later saying they still have our lights on their walls,' he adds. 'They've passed them from parents to children. That's what we're about; lighting that's safe, modern, and made to last across generations.'

And if there's one thing he hopes visitors will remember after LiGHT 25? Mark doesn't hesitate: 'That they've met a company that stands for quality. Good, better, best; whichever range you choose, you're still buying a Mercedes.'
