North Rhine-Westphalia furniture store downsizes as clearance sale marks major transition

A North Rhine-Westphalia furniture store, has begun a large-scale clearance sale as part of a major downsizing of its retail space. The company announced that Building 3 at its Bochum-Laer site will be vacated by the end of the year, marking a significant shift in its operations and store layout.

This decision follows Hardeck's new retail strategy, which aims to prioritise customer experience over sheer showroom size under the motto "less space, more experience."

Managing Director Dirk Hardeck emphasised that the change is not simply about reducing floor space, but about creating a more dynamic and personalised shopping environment. The redesigned floors in Building 2 already feature brand studios and customised furniture displays, offering visitors a more interactive and inspiring shopping experience. As part of the transition, clearance sales are currently taking place in all departments of Building 3, with discounts of up to 70 percent on furniture and home goods.

After the closure, Hardeck will continue operations in Buildings 1 and 2 on the opposite side of Wittener Straße, reducing its total showroom area from approximately 40,000 to just under 30,000 square meters. The vacated space in Building 3 will be repurposed as part of the Nova 51°7 urban development project. The family-owned business, a fixture in the Ruhr region's retail landscape, is embracing this transformation as a way to modernise its brand and meet evolving consumer expectations while maintaining its long-standing presence in Bochum.
