A commercial furniture supplier in the UK has reported a decline in sales and a pre-tax loss of £844,000 for the year ended 31 December 2024, according to its latest filed accounts. This follows a modest profit of £20,000 in 2023.

Total sales for Eclipse Furniture, the company in question, fell 5.1% to £13 million, down from £13.7 million the previous year. UK sales decreased from £13.3 million to £12.8 million, while EU revenues fell sharply to £165,000 from £403,000. Sales to the rest of the world declined to £36,000 from £69,000.
In its annual report, Eclipse Furniture highlighted strategic changes undertaken during the year. "During the year the directors adjusted the business strategy to delivery of a blend of bespoke products to key customers alongside a stocked range with short lead times. The implementation of this strategy has led to increased spend on development of the distribution function, staff members and team development," the company stated.
The firm acknowledged that while the investment contributed to the 2024 results, it is seen as laying the foundation for future growth. "This investment into the operations led to the results achieved during 2024 but is considered to have set the infrastructure for management's growth plans," the report added.
The figures underline the challenging conditions facing furniture suppliers in both domestic and international markets, as businesses adjust strategies to remain competitive while investing in operational capabilities.
Eclipse Furniture's focus on combining bespoke offerings with faster-moving stocked lines reflects an industry-wide trend towards flexibility, innovation, and responsiveness to customer demand.
