After more than a century in business, a family-run furniture store in Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany), will close permanently at the end of 2025. The closure marks the end of a 101-year legacy in the city's retail landscape.

Founded in 1924, Fuchs Wohnen grew into a trusted local institution and was long located at Eisenbahnstraße and Karl-Marx-Straße, in the building known as the Fuchsbau ("Fox's Den"). The property was sold earlier this year to Cifci GmbH of Bruchsal, after which the store continued as a tenant.
The furniture industry crisis and the owner's retirement played major roles in the decision to shut down operations.
"I didn't make this decision lightly. It's something that has grown over time, and now it's good the way it is," said owner Annette Fuchs-Lössl, the third generation to run the store.
A clearance sale has begun and will continue until December 31, 2025. Most of the six employees are retiring alongside the owner, with only two seeking new positions.
The closure follows similar developments in the regional furniture sector, notably the recent shutdown of Möbel Nolte in Germersheim, which affected 230 employees.
