Nine leading business associations, including BAVC, BDWi, BGA, Gesamtmetall, VCI, VDMA, ZVEI, and the German Association of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses, have called on EU and German policymakers to rapidly reduce bureaucracy. The statement follows the European Parliament's failure in October to approve the Omnibus I package, intended to simplify reporting and due diligence obligations.

In an open letter, the associations described the parliamentary setback as a "fatal signal" to European businesses, delaying promised reductions in administrative burdens. They emphasised the need for "planning certainty, practical rules, and a reduction to the bare essentials" to prevent ongoing uncertainty.
Omnibus Package I is seen as crucial for addressing over-regulation in sustainability reporting (CSRD) and the supply chain directive (CSDDD), which currently risk imposing excessive administrative strain on companies.
The associations urged European legislators to deliver a viable solution promptly. They stressed that without relief, the competitiveness of the European economy could face lasting damage, calling for the European Parliament to send a clear signal of reliability and action in its upcoming plenary session.
