Dunelm and British Heart Foundation partnership surpasses £1m milestone

Dunelm has celebrated its longstanding partnership with the British Heart Foundation (BHF), which has now raised over £1 million to fund research into heart disease, stroke, vascular dementia, and related conditions.

Since 2016, Dunelm customers have been able to donate used furniture and mattresses to BHF, diverting more than 215 tonnes of items from waste streams and giving them a second life. Donations must be in saleable condition, and BHF provides free collection of eligible items.

To further support responsible disposal, Dunelm also partners with Clearabee to recycle items that cannot be collected by BHF. Additionally, the retailer operates a textile takeback scheme across 175 stores, collecting around 120 tonnes of textiles per month for reuse or recycling, totalling nearly 1,500 tonnes in the last financial year – a 24% increase on the previous year.

Christina Downend, head of responsible sourcing at Dunelm, said: 'We're incredibly proud of our partnership with the British Heart Foundation and the impact it's had – both in supporting lifesaving research and helping our customers make more sustainable choices.'

Karen O'Donoghue of BHF added: 'Reaching the £1m mark is a powerful reminder of what's possible when businesses embrace the circular economy and communities unite behind a meaningful cause.'

The initiative forms part of Dunelm's Good & Circular approach to sustainability, promoting reuse, recycling, and community engagement.
