The city of Halle has suffered a significant setback after the Austrian furniture chain XXXLutz decided not to proceed with its planned store in Bruckdorf. The project, which was expected to feature the retailer's trademark "red chair," has been officially cancelled, prompting criticism of Halle's city administration.

According to local reports, the decision was made earlier in October, raising questions about whether the city's officials acted too slowly in facilitating the investment. Critics argue that bureaucratic delays may have discouraged the company, while city representatives firmly deny these accusations.
For Halle, which has positioned itself as a growing urban centre with major development projects such as the future development centre and the RAW site, the withdrawal represents a blow to its economic ambitions. The cancellation not only halts the arrival of a prominent retailer but also dims expectations of new jobs and increased commercial activity in the region.
While the city council maintains that the administration followed proper procedures, residents and business observers are calling for greater transparency and efficiency in handling future development proposals, warning that further missed opportunities could damage Halle's reputation as an investment-friendly location in Saxony-Anhalt.
