Matter in motion: Maison&Objet 2026 unveils the future of design

Maison&Objet returns in January 2026 with its theme Matter & Mutation, exploring the transformations of matter and the ingenuity of contemporary design and craftsmanship. The exhibition highlights the interplay between organic materials, ancestral techniques, and technological innovation, opening new hybrid possibilities for the interiors of tomorrow.

The Fine Craft – Métiers d'Art sector will feature artisans Muriel Maire and Ana Montaya, members of Ateliers d'Art de France, who each work with living matter in distinctive ways. Maire, based in Brittany, creates dreamlike objects from plant fibres, driftwood, pods, and dried flowers, while Montaya in Marseille produces organic collages from seed pods, eggshells, and silk cocoons. Their works invite visitors "to see, touch, and imagine," offering tactile and poetic encounters with nature.

Quentin Hirsinger, founder of materiO', the world's reference library for innovative materials, will take centre stage at Maison&Objet with a focus on "Translucidity." When asked about the theme, he said, "within Translucidity, there is 'Transformation' and 'Lucidity,' two words that resonate deeply with me." Hirsinger emphasises the potential of living materials in design, highlighting "the qualities of mycelium for design applications" and considering "pigment-producing bacteria that reinvent the world of dyeing and printing," demonstrating how material innovation is shaping the design landscape.

The theme of mutation extends to the Intérieurs Hong Kong exhibition (3–6 December 2025), where designer and Fabrick Lab founder Elaine Yan Ling Ng, winner of the Women&Design Maison&Objet Award, explores the intersection of technology and nature. Sensitive to environmental influences that transform materials, Ng studies nature through her biomimetic creations, exemplifying an ecological approach to design.

Since 1994, Maison&Objet has been a vital hub for international decoration, design, and lifestyle professionals. Through two annual trade shows, Paris Design Week, and its digital platform MOM (Maison&Objet and More), the organisation fosters global exchanges, highlights emerging trends, and supports brand visibility. MOM, active year-round since 2016, continues to energise the industry with new product highlights and marketplace opportunities.

A flagship of the Paris Capitale de la Création label, Maison&Objet positions Paris as a leading global creative hub, reaching nearly 2 million professionals through social media and digital channels.
