TMF reports temporary ROT increase boosting kitchen sector

Despite ongoing challenges from low economic growth and global uncertainties, Sweden's wood and furniture industry shows signs of recovery, particularly in the kitchen sector, according to TMF i siffror 2 2025.

TMF, the trade and employer organisation for Sweden's wood-processing and furniture companies, reports that the temporary increase in the ROT deduction is expected to stimulate demand and support revenue growth in the second half of 2025. The deduction, which temporarily rose to 50%, is set to return to 30% at year-end.

"The temporarily restored ROT deduction has effectively encouraged demand and employment, while strengthening the renovation market," said Erik Haara, CEO of TMF. He also highlighted the ongoing need for measures to support new production in single-family homes.

Other sectors are showing positive trends as well. Doors and windows increased deliveries by 4% and 6%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2024, with door exports up 8%. The multi-family housing segment experienced particularly strong growth, with reported deliveries of timber-framed apartments rising by 57%, thanks to improved market conditions, lower interest rates, and stabilising inflation.

Conversely, furniture and office furniture exports declined by 2% and 7% in the first half of 2025. However, the rate of decline has slowed, suggesting a stabilising trend similar to the kitchen sector.

TMF i siffror provides semi-annual statistics on the wood and furniture industry, covering production, export, and import of timber houses, furniture, kitchens, doors, windows, wooden floors, stairs, and wood panels. The report draws on TMF data and other sources and is widely cited within the industry.
