Demand for bathroom renovations rises as homeowners focus on functionality

Research from City Plumbing indicates that more than a third of plumbers and installers have observed an increased demand for full bathroom renovations. The survey, which polled 500 tradespeople, found that 35% reported rising interest in complete renovations, while 25% noted growth in general home repair work, and 34% observed an even split between renovation and repair requests.

Functionality, rather than aesthetics, is the main driver for renovations, with 42% of installers reporting that customers seek adaptations to accommodate changing mobility needs or lifestyle changes. Style remains a factor, with 30% noting homeowners want "a more modern look".

Steve Smith, managing director of Bathrooms at City Plumbing, commented that the trend shows homeowners are balancing aspirations with budgets and environmental considerations, presenting opportunities for installers to provide solutions ranging from full upgrades to minor repairs.

The findings align with earlier research by B&Q, which reported that 61% of UK homeowners plan to remain in their current homes for five years or more, reflecting a growing focus on improving existing properties rather than relocating.
