October marks Wool Month, a celebration of the sustainable, versatile, and aesthetic qualities of British wool, championed by heritage carpet maker Brintons and luxury bedmaker Vispring. Both brands use this natural fibre to create high-quality interiors while supporting farmers, local communities, and environmentally responsible practices across the UK.

Brintons, in partnership with British Wool, is the world's largest customer of British wool, transforming wool from one in every nine British sheep into premium carpets and rugs. Graham Clark, Marketing Director at British Wool, states: "Brintons is the largest user of British wool in the world. They've used high levels of British wool in all of their carpets for many years, and this is one of the many reasons they have such an enviable reputation for quality. Wool is one of the most sustainable fibres in the world and has been for centuries."
Brintons sources wool from Devon, Dorset, Durham, the Cotswolds, Yorkshire, the Shetlands, and across Wales and the Scottish Highlands, producing flooring that is durable, insulating and fire-retardant, while also maintaining a luxurious, long-lasting appearance. Lisa Conway, Marketing Manager at Brintons, adds: "Wool is always an excellent choice due to its natural insulating properties… Wool carpets are known for their quality because wool is naturally tough… it's considered one of the safest fibres for flooring and fabrics – the perfect choice for the family home."
Vispring, in partnership with the Campaign for Wool, fills each handcrafted mattress with up to four fleeces of British wool, maintaining strong ties with the crofting industry and ensuring fair-trade sourcing. Clare Schifano, Global Marketing Director at Vispring, highlights: "Along with other natural, breathable materials including cotton, Tencel and mulberry silk, a key ingredient used to fill Vispring mattresses is British wool… Wool acts as a natural insulator, keeping the wearer warm in winter and cool in summer… Unlike synthetic products, wool is also naturally fire-resistant."
Celebrating 130+ years of British wool craftsmanship, Brintons and Vispring both promote the fibre's hypoallergenic, antibacterial, and environmentally friendly properties, demonstrating its enduring appeal in sustainable interior design. The initiative also supports the welfare of sheep and preserves traditional rural livelihoods.
Brintons offers collections including Charleston and Buttermilk (from £40), while Vispring introduces the 2025 Baronet Superb and Regal Superb mattresses, all featuring responsibly sourced British wool.
