French e-commerce grew by 7.9% in the first half of 2025, driven by increased transactions and strong performance in services, according to Fevad, the Federation of e-commerce and distance selling. Product sales rose by 4%, while service revenue expanded by 10%, largely due to an 11.3% increase in transaction numbers.

Despite growth, the average basket value declined to €67, a fall of 3% for products and 5% for services. Fevad attributes this to lower inflation, a rise in second-hand sales, and consumers seeking discounts and low prices.
Analysis of the "iCE 100" panel of over 100 sites shows sales to individuals increased by 5.3% year-on-year. The most dynamic sectors were sports (+5.8%), electronics and household appliances (+4.5%), and furniture/decor (+2.2%). Clothing (+0.1%) and beauty (+0.6%) remained stable. Service sectors, including travel, accommodation, and transport, grew by 9%. Conversely, sales to professionals fell by 2.6% amid cautious business investment.
Fevad concludes that e-commerce continues to adapt to consumers' focus on purchasing power, with strong growth in services and a moderate recovery in non-food product sales. The data highlights the increasing role of online channels in providing competitive prices, promotions, and new shopping practices, including second-hand purchases.
