Homeware sales fall as UK high street sees first dip in 13 weeks

UK homeware sales declined for the first time in 13 weeks, according to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker. For the week ending 5 October 2025, total like-for-like (LFL) sales fell 3.67%, with homewares dropping -3.43% compared with the same week in 2024.

Store-based homeware sales fell by -2.05%, while non-store sales experienced a sharper decline of -11.50%, marking the second consecutive negative week for the category's online segment. Overall store LFL sales grew slightly by +0.52%, offsetting weaker non-store performance, which sank by -7.33%.

BDO highlighted that poor non-store outcomes affected all retail segments, though in-store sales remained positive for a tenth straight week, supported by lifestyle and fashion categories.

Footfall on high streets and in shopping centres fell by -2.2% and -1.9% respectively, while retail parks recorded a +1.2% increase. The tracker noted that calm autumn weather, with cooler temperatures and early frosts, contrasted with last year's unsettled conditions.

The results underline ongoing challenges for UK homeware retailers, particularly in the online market, despite relatively steady in-store performance.
