Carl Hansen appoints new chairman to bring fresh perspective

Carl Hansen & Søn has appointed former Jyske Bank CEO Anders Dam as chairman of the board. The move, emphasised by CEO Knud Erik Hansen, is intended to bring new perspectives rather than address financial difficulties. Hansen noted: 'He is not coming to solve problems. We are in a solid place, and the appointment is solely about adding new perspectives.'

The Gelsted-based furniture manufacturer has faced challenging years, reporting a DKK 33 million loss in 2024, down from profits in the previous 15 years. Staff numbers have fallen from around 1,100 to 715, reflecting post-pandemic adjustments and restructuring.

Hansen highlighted the importance of an active board, describing meetings as forums for 'lively and professionally strong discussions,' where members contribute their experience. Anders Dam's appointment aligns with this collaborative approach.

The company is also preparing for a generational transition, with Hansen's 27-year-old son, Morten Hai Hansen, appointed marketing director and designated as future CEO. Additionally, Carl Hansen & Søn acquired the majority of Getama's collection following a 2024 fire at its production facility, signalling continued strategic expansion alongside leadership renewal.
