The company cited declining market performance, stagnating real estate markets, changing consumer behaviour, and rising demand for lower-priced appliances as reasons for the closures. Matthias Metz, Chairman of BSH, emphasised that the decision was necessary to safeguard future competitiveness. Thorsten Lücke, Director of Human Resources, stressed BSH's commitment to supporting affected employees.
BSH will continue operations at its other factories, product development and sales centres, logistics, customer service, and group headquarters in Germany. Over the past three years, the company has invested approximately €300 million in German sites, focusing on product range expansion, modernisation, digitalisation, automation, and research and development. Further investments are planned to strengthen competitiveness and innovation in Germany.
