Industry unites in grief and support after Waterline closure

The UK KBB industry has reacted with shock and sadness to the news that long-standing distributor Waterline has entered administration and ceased trading. The company, once the sector's largest distributor with over 30 brands and 5,000 monthly deliveries, has left a significant void in the marketplace.

The Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association (KBSA) described the closure as "a big blow to our industry," expressing sympathy for affected staff, suppliers, and customers. The association urged unity within the sector, vowing to support those impacted and "champion professionalism, support, and resilience within the independent retail sector."

Former employees and industry peers shared tributes online, highlighting Waterline's enduring legacy and the loyalty of its workforce. Michaela Morgan, a former employee and now Cyncly area sales manager, called the closure "deeply saddening," praising the company's "one-stop shop" model and the dedication of staff who had spent decades with the firm. Others, including Garry Payne of Waste Maid and Dan Heath of Haier, emphasised the professionalism and strong relationships that defined Waterline's operations.

Crown Imperial, Waterline's sister company, confirmed it would continue supplying furniture products directly from its head office in Kent. Managing director Barry Head expressed gratitude for Waterline's "unwavering dedication" to customers and the wider KBB industry.
