Handpicked with love: Olsson & Jensen’s imperfectly perfect approach

'We don't believe in perfection,' says Catarina Albinsson, CEO at Olsson & Jensen, her voice reflecting both conviction and care. 'Imperfection gives a piece character, and that's what makes it beautiful.'

The Swedish design house is approaching its 20th anniversary next year, a milestone that will celebrate two decades of heartfelt craftsmanship and timeless design. Its philosophy feels more relevant than ever. Each product is, as Catarina explains, 'handpicked with love,' a phrase that perfectly captures the brand's essence of authenticity and emotion.

Since 2006, Olsson & Jensen has built its identity around the belief that timeless and long-lasting pieces, crafted with care, can balance classic elegance with evolving trends. Each collection is complementary to a vintage range that enhances the unique energy of the brand's DNA. This is where romantic velvet meets raw linen, and where the southern European silhouette elevates the northern spirit, a place where new meets old. The brand's collections often merge vintage and contemporary design, using old wood, reused doors, and natural materials to create interiors that feel both grounded and alive.

A home away from home
At this year's Maison & Objet in Paris back in September, the company once again proved why its stand is a returning favourite. 'It's important that people feel like they are coming home to us,' Catarina shares. The booth radiated warmth, a blend of earthy tones, natural textures, and imperfectly perfect details that spoke directly to the brand's core identity.

'The first day was crazy,' she recalls with a laugh. 'We sold out of our vintage pieces in just two hours.' The fair was a triumph not only in sales but in spirit. Feedback was particularly strong on Olsson & Jensen's sustainable and human approach, from their careful material choices to the close, ethical relationships they maintain with their suppliers.

'We don't just look at materials or logistics,' she says. 'We care about the people behind every product. That means visiting suppliers, understanding their conditions, and building trust over time.'

While sustainability remains a natural part of the process, it's the brand's design philosophy, combining authenticity, tactility, and emotion, that continues to define it.

Crafting connections beyond products
Olsson & Jensen's approach extends far beyond the pieces themselves. 'We are very selective about who we work with,' Catarina explains. 'Sometimes we need to say no to potential clients to maintain uniqueness and quality in each market.'

This careful curation ensures that every partnership is meaningful and that the brand's identity remains strong across Sweden, Norway, France, the UK, and beyond. With around 900 articles in the current range, the team continuously evaluates gaps in categories, mixing vintage and new designs to create harmonious collections that inspire.

Catarina emphasises that listening to agents and customers across Europe is crucial: 'We are growing in the European market and listen closely to our agents and customers,' she says. 'We adapt our products and collections to suit local styles and preferences, but our prices remain the same across Europe, and we always stay true to our core values.'

The small, 14-person team ensures that every decision reflects the brand's vision, preserving a personal touch that larger companies often lose.

Looking ahead with purpose
The brand's latest collection, Autumn/Winter 2025, Mélodies d'Ambre, captures a moody, nostalgic atmosphere through earthy hues of burnt orange, mustard yellow, olive green, and deep brown. Inspired by the elegance of the 60s and 70s, the collection merges warmth and structure, vintage soul with modern silhouette.

While 2025 brought strong connections and renewed energy at Maison & Objet, Olsson & Jensen's upcoming Spring/Summer 2026 line will continue to explore natural materials and soft, grounded tones, 'feminine, earthy and full of life,' as Catarina describes it.

As the company prepares for another appearance in Paris, its direction remains steady, rooted in sustainability, emotion, and a love for the imperfect. 'It's about feeling,' Catarina concludes. 'Every piece should tell a story, and every story should make you feel at home.'
